Charles Bridge (Karlův most) celebrated 660 years.
Sunday, July 9, Prague will celebrate the 660th anniversary of the Charles Bridge. The official celebration of the famed bridge will take place from 6:30 until 23:00.
The commemoration of the bridge will include many different events throughout the day. For the bridge’s diehard fans, there will be a blessing of the bridge. For those who know less about is history, there will be boat tours of the Vltava, as well as a variety of other historical tours. The boat tours are designed to give viewers a new perspective on the bridge.
At 21:30, Kino bus will screen the Czechoslovakian musical “A Night at Karlštejn.” The film will be shown at Jan Palach Square. All tours and the outdoor cinema will be free. Entrance into the Charles Bridge Museum will also be free all day.
While events are free, their capacity is limited. Consequently, those who want to participate must register via telephone. The phone number is 221 714 560, you can reach them daily from 8:00-20:00.
Early in the morning, when the event begins, visitors will be able to listen to the sounds from the Lesser Town Bridge Tower, acknowledging the time 660 years ago when Charles IV laid down the bridge’s first foundational stones. After, a member of the Order of the Cross with the Red Star will bless the bridge.
There will also be tours demonstrating some of the bridge’s history and more intricate details. One will highlight the importance of symbolism and numbers during the time the bridge was built. Charles Bridge is filled with intricate details that many do not know the historical importance of.
