CTK confirmed today that the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) will cancel the public tender for the delivery of tickets of 170 million crowns. “During the tender procedure, the contracting authority discovered that counterfeit documents appeared in the circulation,” stated the authorities.

Counterfeit tickets for urban public transport appeared in the capital, and the protective components required for travel documents in the Prague public transport system proved to be fraud. The transport company will be republishing the supply of tickets between 2017 and 2021.

“We are doing so for safety reasons and to avoid possible financial losses, and we have now decided to take further action, which is the cancellation of the tender for the production of travel documents,” said Martin Gillar, Director General of the DPP.

It is not excluded from the investigation, that there could be organized groups involved in the fraud and if the groups are specifically targeting the transportation company. Also, there is no clear number on how many were printed or where the counterfeited tickets may be.
