After the approval of the Heritage Institute and the City Hall’s heritage department, the City Council decided to install beehives on the Prague City Hall building roof.
The structures will be six, all managed by a beekeeper, which will care about health and life of the swarms. The only limit that the Heritage department has set is that the wooden hives colour should match with the colour of the building.
This is not the only project of beehives in Prague, it is actually common to see them in parks, forests and in the botanical garden of Prague-Troja, but even on shopping malls roofs.
We can estimate about 500.000 hives in Czech Republic, managed by about 53.000 beekeepers.
