Czech doctors of the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKEM) and the Motol University Hospital (FNM), aim to be the first ones in the world to verify the possibility of uterine transplants from a dead donor.

The uniqueness of this experimentation consists of the fact that, so far, only uterus from live donors have been transplanted, and this would be the first time it happens from a dead donor.

In the study under preparation, twenty surgeries will be under examination: half of the women will receive the uterine transplant from live donors, and the other half from dead donors.

This experimentation will also help women born without this organ or that had it removed, and may involve in the Czech Republic from 2.000 to 4.000 women.
