A Singaporean entrepreneur who visited Prague last year tried a trdelník at a Christmas market and liked the pastry so much that he decided to bring them to his home country. After meeting the owner of the stand, Radek Luka, also the owner of the catering company Lucky Service, they decided to branch out to Singapore, where a store will open by the end of the year. “We are currently resolving the concept and the contract. The Asian market holds a great future for us,” considers Luka, who is currently negotiating business in China.
At the beginning of August, the Luka’s business will open a trdelník store in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The store will also function as a showroom for those who are interested in carrying on the franchise to other Balkan markets. “We would like to get to know the mentality of the customers in other parts of Europe and potentially expand our business to Slovenia and Croatia,” explains Luka, who already owns stores in Austria and Germany, which have been highly successful locations for the Czech business.
Other European countries are in the process of negotiations. “We are currently dealing with entering the Swiss market. We are also interested in projects in France and Italy, in Rome specifically,” he adds.
