According to a recent press release, Vàclav Havel airport has made record numbers this year.
The first half of 2017, a record number of 6,764,752 passengers arrived at Prague’s international airport. From January to September 1.2 million more passengers arrived in Prague as compared to 2016.
Surprisingly, June 23, 2017, proved to be the most active day with around 64,000 passengers arriving. Vàclav Havel Airport’s website released the statistics revealing a growth of 90% increase on direct flight connections in Europe. Another majority of flights were from Prague to Africa, with an 81% growth. Additionally, flights to the Far East grew at an unprecedented 70%.
The most visited country, according to the airport’s site, was Great Britain and the most popular has been Moscow. The chairman of Prague Airport Board of Directors, Václav Řehoř, commented on the increase by commenting, “if the airport continues the airport will arrive at the 15 million handled passengers a year mark.”
New airlines will be adding direct flights to Prague this year. Beginning May 4, American Airlines will create a new route from Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL); British Airways also announced a direct flight from Prague to London effective October 29, 2017.
