Alza.cz is now selling high-end electric cars by Tesla.
The future is here, you can now buy electric cars on the Internet. Alza, the Czech Republic’s largest e-shop, is selling Teslas. Alza’s goal in selling cars online is to make electric vehicles more accessible.
“From the beginning, we wanted the purchase of an electric car to be as easy for people as if they were buying a mobile phone,” Jaromír Řánek, manager of the electromobility project for Alza.cz said.
There are many advantages to driving electric, which Alza.cz has noted. Aside from environmental concerns, operating costs of driving electric cars are considerably lower than diesel or gasoline cars. Additionally, electric cars can access areas in Prague’s center that petrol and diesel cars are banned from.
“Just for urban transport, electromobility is the best choice. European cities massively prohibit diesel engines in their centers and it is highly likely that this trend will not be avoided in the future in the Czech Republic as well,” Alza.cz said in a press release.
Electric cars are not only good for those who own them, with reduced noise and smog, they improve the quality of life for everyone.
However, there are still obstacles discouraging people from buying electric cars. Lack of information, according to Alza.cz, is one of the primary obstacles facing electric car sales. “Almost no one knows that up to 98% of the charging is done at home from a standard outlet,” Jaromír Vegr, chairman of the association said. Alza.cz also will allow customers to charge their Teslas from their showroom.
Despite being able to charge from home or in the showroom, there is still a significant barrier for customers. The Model X 100D gets 475 km to a charge, while the Model S 75D can only travel 300 km before needing a charge. This limitation is not a problem commuting around Prague, however, it would make short road trips difficult to manage. While this issue persist today, it may be irrelevant in the near future. A Tesla Model S variant just drove 900 km on a single charge.
Alza is currently selling two variants, a sedan, the Model S 75D as well as an SUV, the Model X 100D. Both models are all-wheel drive, with one battery driving the front wheels, and a second driving the rear wheels.
The S model starts at just under 3 million crowns, while the X model sells at just under 3.5 million. Both prices are with VAT, and each comes with free delivery. The cars are on display at their Prague store in Holešovice. Both vehicles are also available for a free test drive.
Alza has not stopped looking to the future. They hope to introduce the Model S 100D, and the Model X 75D soon. By including more models, Alza will be able to reach a broader customer base. The prices for these models are not listed yet.
