Here is a selection of great festivals scheduled in extraordinary places and away from the well-traveled roads to inspire your novel summer holiday this year.
Obonjan, Dalmatian Coast, Croatia, July 28 – September 6
This is the first year of a new festival experience on the Otok Obonjan Island, better known locally as the “island of youth.” The music ranges from hip hop and funk ‘n’ soul to electronica and techno, while the rest of the program includes talks and workshops covering ecology, astrology and free-diving and art exhibits.
Colors of Ostrava, Ostrava, Czech Republic, July 14 – July 17
Jazz, rock and pop in the Dolní oblast Vítkovice (which means “the lower area of Vítkovice”), a post-industrial setting that lies in the shadows of former ironworks, blast furnaces and mines declared a European Heritage Protected site.
Positivus, Tiga Bay, Latvia, July 15 – July 17
Festivalgoers can enjoy Ellie Goulding, Iggy Pop, M83, Grimes and Mark Ronson, among others.
Into The Valley, Rättvik, Sweden, July 28 – July 30
Sweden’s Dalhalla, 280 kilometers northwest of Stockholm, is the venue for the second edition of this event.
Surrounded by forests and with a dramatic blue pool at the bottom, the Dalhalla becomes a natural amphitheater for a weekend of techno music under the stars, art installations, food trucks and drinks.
SZIGET, Obuda, Hungary, August 10 – August 17
One of Europe’s largest music and cultural festivals. For its 24th edition, Sziget will feature Rihana, Sia, Noel Gallagher, Bloc Party and David Guetta.
