George Michael has died aged 53. His death was announced by his publicist, who made a statement tonight (December 25) confirming the star “passed away peacefully at home.”
A statement from Michael’s publicist, Cindi Berger, said he had not been ill. No other details were released.
“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period,” Berger said.
George Michael rose to fame as part of pop-duo WHAM!, with guitarist Andrew Ridgely.
Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in north London, sold more than 100m albums throughout a career spanning almost four decades.
