In its latest worldwide survey of prices for tourist staples in popular resorts and cities, Post Office Travel Money has found that the holiday purse is likely to stretch furthest in European hotspots. In a year when value for money will be the destination decider for many holidaymakers, the Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer of 44 resorts and cities has found that Europe takes nine of the top 10 best value places.

The Post Office barometer monitors the price of eight tourist items – comprising dinner for two with wine, a cup of coffee, bottle of local beer, a can of Coca-Cola, glass of wine, bottle of still water, suncream and even insect repellent.

Portugal’s Algarve was named as the best value location, followed by Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach, Spain’s Costa del Sol, Turkey’s Marmaris and Prague.
