2016 was a big year for events in Prague. According to new data from the Czech Statistical Office, the city welcomed 4,426 conferences in 2016, the most since 2006.

The number represents a 5.7 percent increase compared to 2015. In total, 2016 conferences in Prague attracted 541,412 delegates.

The Czech Statistical Office data tracks only events held in collective accommodation establishments with attendance of more than 50 people.

According to data from the Prague Convention Bureau, which also tracks events of less than 50 delegates in hotels, congress centers, and other alternative venues, there were 2,528 events held in Prague in 2016.

“We can observe a very positive trend of delegates staying in Prague for a longer time,” said Roman Muška, managing director of the Prague Convention Bureau. “While in 2015, delegates stayed here for 1.99 days on average, in 2016 it was 2.22 days. We believe the trend, will continue in the following years.”

According to the Prague Convention Bureau, half of the events in Prague were attended by delegates from outside the country, mostly from the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Italy, and Belgium. Pharmacy was the most discussed topic, followed by industry, IT and telecommunications.
