The challenge for the bronze medal in the women’s doubles of Rio 2016 was a matter for the Czech Republic. At the end of the match were Lucie Šafářová and Barbora Strýcová to cheer after a victory in the derby against their countrywomen Andrea Hlaváčková and Lucie Hradecká, claiming a 7-5 6-1 success.

Šafářová and Strýcová produced a stunning first-round upset of the Williams sisters but saw their wonderful run come to an end at the hands of Russian duo Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.

Swiss team Hingis and Bacsinszky will face Makarova and Vesnina for the gold medal today.
