The rise of Airbnb and other short-term renting options mean house prices are rising and the hotel and tourism industry is suffering.

Prague wants to put restrictions in place to stop this. Some European cities have already introduced restrictions on Airbnb, for example, in Amsterdam there is a rule which means that any house can only be rented through Airbnb for a maximum of 60 days per year.

According to the councillor and Deputy Mayor of the capital city of Prague 1 Daniel Hodek (CSSD) restrictions can not be done without legislative changes. “It is just like with the Segways, without changing the legislation, noting can be done about it.”
