Today is World Photography Day, which has been celebrated on August 19 since 2010.

With help from good friends, World Photo Day Founder, Korske Ara spent hours of his spare time learning the skills needed to build a website that could support a global gallery.

World Photography Day celebrates the works of amateur as well as professional photographers in equal measure. The date celebrates August 19, 1839, when the French government bought the patent for the daguerreotype and released it “free to the world”.

Thanks to digital cameras on mobile phones, more than 350 billion photos are now taken worldwide every year.
